Vicar of Winkfield Pear Recipes

Poached Pears in Red Wine
 
1.5 c red wine
.5 c honey
2 T lemon juice
Piece of lemon peel (1.5 x .75 inches)
1 cinnamon stick
6-10 whole cloves
6 Vicar pears (yellow skin but still very firm)
 
Combine first 6 ingredients in small pot and simmer for 5 minutes.
Peel the pears, cut into halves, quarters, or smaller and remove cores.  Add pears to pot (you can add as many as you can fit so they are mostly covered by liquid.)  Simmer 10 minutes or until tender.  Chill and serve.  Will keep in the fridge for several days.

.5 c honey

1 t grated fresh ginger (or more)
6 Vicar pears (yellow skin but still very firm)
 
Combine first 6 ingredients in small pot and simmer for 5 minutes.
Peel the pears, cut into halves, quarters, or smaller and remove cores.  Add pears to pot (you can add as many as you can fit so they are mostly covered by liquid.)  Simmer 10 minutes or until tender.  Chill and serve.  Will keep in the fridge for several days.
